SISTA MYRA PLAYS A PAN MADE BY ED PETERS OF Steeltonemusical.com
MEET THE BAND
Preston Kizer known as "Junior" was born and rasied in Paducah, Kentucky.  Junior has been singing since the age of 6 .  He was influenced by gospel, funk, R&B, and later on developed a naturalness for reggae.  He is a self taught keyboard player, and sings such melodious harmony that is so pleasant to your ears.  You will often find him sitting at his keyboard and creating music.  In high school he has performed in many productions as well as winning talent shows both at school and other events around the Kalamazoo area.  His favorite artists are Tevin Campbell, Whitney Houston, Janet and Michael Jackson, Aswad, Third World, Maxi Priest and of course Bob Marley.

THANK YOU FOR BEING GUEST NUMBER.....
"Sista" Myra Atkinson credits her start in music to her Aunt Mable A. Haywood who had a piano and organ in her house.  While Sista Myra didn't get the opportunity to finish lessons, she still had music in her veins and decided to become a part of the band in junior and senior high schools taking up the clarinet.  Later she taught herself other instruments like the guitar, saxophone, flute, trumpet and drums.  Sista Myra comes from a family of singers and Jah blessed her with a voice.  After moving to Michigan she began playing for weddings, receptions, private gatherings, and local pubs while accompanying herself on guitar playing genres i.e. folk, pop, country, and R&B.  Myra also formed an all female band playing locally, she also teamed up with a good friend where they would switch up on bass guitar for each other playing local venues.  After being exposed to reggae, well.. the rest is history.   She has been learning the steel pan on her own.  Sista Myra's influences are Mariam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Rita Marley and Luciano.
Honorary member from Senegal- Laurent Sagna drums
Zion Lion Reggae Band is the "baddest" band to hit Kalamazoo.    Zion Lion is a combination of several bands from the Kalamazoo area who crossed each others path along the way and decided to form what we believe to be the right mix of reggae, zouk, soukous, and afo-latin influences.  Come out to see if we are playing at a venue in your town.
NATHAN NDJIHARINE
Nathan Ndjiharine (guitar and vocals) grew up under Apartheid rule during Namibia's occupation by South Africa.  During this time, he was influenced very heavily by Bob Marley's music and the positive message of liberating Africa from the colonial powers and saw reggae as the music for the liberation struggle.  Nathan began playing guitar at the early age of 12 and played in several bands in Namibia with home-town friends as well as other musicians from South Africa.  In New York, during the 80's and early 90's Ndjiharine joined Yelling Beat and Global Warming world beat bands and played the local club circuit.  He is also a founding member of Yoroka, a West Michigan world beat music group.  In addition to African musicians such as Diblo Dibala, Nene Chakou, and Jackson Kaujeus, Ndjiharine is influenced by American classic rock and soul as well as Motown, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning spear.
THANKS TO ALL OF OUR FANS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.  WE HAVE RECEIVED SO MANY POSITIVE VIBES.   JAH BLESS!!!!!  'TIL NEXT TIME WE MEET!

SISTA MYRA WITH PATO BANTON 2007
PRESTON MOORE
Preston Moore has been performing for over 20 years in the areas of drum, bass, guitar, and keyboards.  After a long and painful recovery from a paralyzing back injury, and relocating from Chicago to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1996, Moore began the slow process of putting his life and music back together.  Two years later, he acquired a position with the Kalamazoo based reggae band the Jah Kings.  Today, while still battling old injuries with new energy and the wish to keep the "roots" in reggae, he writes and produces music for his own gratification.  Starting his home studio and production label, Moore has now joined forces with other local greats and future icons, with hopes of preserving and respecting the original greats before us.
