NATHAN NDJHIRANE- NAMIBIA, AFRICA
GUITAR, VOCALS, SONGWRITER
Nathan came to us from Windhoek, Namibia, in the southern part of the Motherland. He was influenced by Bob Marley's music with the positive message of liberating Africa from colonial powers while experiencing apartheid rule. He started playing guitar at age 12, and played in several bands in his homeland. Nathan relocated to New York in 1983 and performed with several world beat bands. After he moved to Kalamazoo, he formed his band "Yoroka" and soon became a welcomed cultural act.
We lost Nathan in August of 2008, and it has been a terrible void in our lives. We will continue to play his music and carry him with us always.
Simba Jahi - was one of the founding members of the band along with Nathan Ndjiharine, and current drummer Preston Moore. Simba has more than 25 years of music under his belt, and plays bass with such a passion that makes others take note.
Laurent Sagna hails from Senegal. He has played drums for Zion Lion for over a year off and on while our original drummer was ill. Laurent continues to play with us whenever he can, and you can see the joy in his face when he plays. He also plays the djembe' and guitar.
